knowledge Discovery national Spelling competition 2009

Today our school had the KDN Spelling competition. As per the terms and regulations of the competition, we did ours at school level first. We got all the Year 4 to Year 6 pupils involved. Ikwan was absent so we only had 7 pupils. Cg. Michael was picked as the Master Speller, Cg. Hanaffi as the Time-Keeper and Cg. Waridi as the Invigilator.

The top three winners at school level will be picked to represent SRPP at zone level. The top 5 pupils from the zone level will compete at the District level and then from there a final top 5 will compete at the National level. We’re hoping for our pupils to at least represent SRPP at the District level. SRPP’09

Program Bijak Sifir

SRPP has many programmes in store for pupils to get involved with other than the usual curriculum around the school year.

One of the main programmes for upper primary pupils is the Program Bijak Sifir, where pupils learn, recognize and remember the multiplication facts. This will help the pupils to get actively involved and also be able to learn multiplication in a fun way.

Activities are given to pupils and each are recorded as reference to teachers and parents. Those who have problems with multiplication are given remedial and enrichment activities. Also, pupils receive certificates of achievement and participations at the end of the programme. SRPP’09

Projek Membisaikan Sekolah: Day 2

Today’s main focus was on the Pondok Ceria and staff car park area. Some teachers brought in more brushes and Cg. Huda also brought some paints to be used on the Pondok Ceria. Pupils helped in painting the stones which we will use later. We also planned to use bamboo poles for the fencing.

Divide and conquer: SENA Room

During our staff meeting at the end of April, our GB told us that UPK and our very own PPKD, Cg. Othman Bolhassan had asked us to set up a room for SENA. Since there were no rooms available, the best way was to divide the Conference Room into two. The good thing about it is that there is already a door at the other side of the room.

Since we had already planned to take down some of the walls in that room, including the GB’s room due to termites, our GB called Pejabat Buruh for some workforce. Azmi started working on it during the extended school break. Some of the teachers and staff also helped in demolishing the walls. We managed to save a few since they were still in good condition. Once help arrived, they were able to set up the frame and the walls in no time.

Influenza A (H1N1) inspection

Pupils all over Brunei go back to school today after an extended 7-day holiday due to the spread of the Influenza A (H1N1) virus which has infected many people all over the world.

As a precautionary move, the Ministry of Education has delayed the start of the second school term by one week. This had been done back in 2006 when the school holidays was also extended by a week due to the spread of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) virus.

Today, pupils can be seen arriving to the school wearing masks to help in preventing the virus from infecting them. The school has also stepped up their efforts by setting up a team of teachers to inspect pupils’ temperature before, during and after school period. Early in the morning, pupils who arrived at school are inspected using the infrared non-contact termoscope which was issued to all schools throughout the country last week. Pupils’ temperature are checked and recorded. If there are any above 38 degrees Celcius, the pupils are either sent home or to the hospital. SRPP’09
